Nextek Ltd Services

High Performance Recycling

  • HDPE Bottle to Bottle

Nextek are the sole European manufacturers of food grade milk bottle resin from post-consumer milk bottles using the process developed by WRAP UK. Bottles containing up to 50% recycled content have met all EU and UK food contact requirements for minimal migration and organoleptic performance. The technology can be applied in any country with similar milk packaging formats such as USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Detailed feasibility studies on potential plant operations can be supplied on request.

  • PET Bottle to Bottle

Nextek have detailed knowledge of the scientific principles and technologies used to recycle PET from post consumer waste to the highest food and beverage grade quality. Nextek has unique proprietary technology to recycle PET at low capital and operational cost. Detailed feasibility studies on potential plant operations can be supplied on request.

Nextek have simple and sophisticated solutions to sorting and recycling problems associated with PET recycling ranging from IV enhancement to elimination of contaminants.

  • Mixed Plastics Separation & Recycling

Nextek have unique processes for the cost efficient sorting and recycling of complex mixtures of plastics based reliable processing technology. The technology has been applied to diverse materials such as packaging plastics and construction materials including streams of PP, PS and PVC.

  • High Purity Recycled Polymers

Nextek have the capacity to produce high purity polymers.

  • Process Auditing

Nextek conduct third party audits to confirm the compliance of products and processes to EU and USA FDA standards for food contact. This is especially relevant to companies that produce or buy food packaging with recycled content and wish to validate that all relevant regulations have been met.

  • Additional Specialisations

Plastics Recycling Plant Design

Nextek provide advice on plastic recycling plant design, layout and equipment specification for a range of plastics and waste polymeric materials.

Rubber Recycling

Nextek have technologies for recycling rubber from car tyres that can be used to manufacture new elastomeric products.

Sustainable Packaging

  • Sustainable Packaging Development

Nextek have expertise in the development of sustainable packaging from renewable raw materials and the processing of bioplastics. These products, sourced from crops and natural oils, have functional properties comparable to traditional plastics. Nextek also provide advice on biodegradability and home compostability standards and regulations in the EU, USA and Australia.

Nextek conducts audits of packaging for brand owners and packaging companies and advises on how to constantly improve the sustainability and environmental profiles.

  • Carbon Footprint Minimisation

Nextek can provide advice to plastics, rubber, recycling and packaging companies on how to reduce the carbon footprint of their products and processes and help them improve their sustainability profile.

  • Lightweighting of Packaging

Nextek redesign and reduce the weight of packaging. Recent projects resulted in significant material cost savings, reduced carbon emissions and energy savings with no impact on performance. Nextek ensured that packaging was consistent with ‘best in class’ or set new standards.

  • Strategic Advice on Packaging Policy

Nextek offers expert advice on revisions of packaging policy and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through improvements in the sustainability of their packaging.

Nextek can support clients through innovative projects that assist with their Courtauld Commitment and offer environmental benefits, potential cost reductions and improved competitiveness.

  • LCA Studies & Validation

Nextek offers Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) advice for the evaluation of packaging to allow selection of materials that has lowest environmental impact. Nextek assess and evaluate aspects including material type, production processes, technical performance and disposal options. LCA validation studies clearly outline environmental benefits of existing packaging.

Polymer Expertise

  • Process Feasibility Studies

Nextek provides detailed feasibility studies of novel processes to allow a full technical and economic assessment of these for investment purposes. These studies are based on actual plant designs and detailed local energy and labour costs so that operating, labour and capital costs can be modelled and realistic estimates of profitability developed.

  • Solutions for Plastic Waste Streams

Nextek has a range of value adding processes for plastic waste streams that emerge from domestic or industrial sources. These can be evaluated by pilot plant studies and further developed into full plant specifications.

  • Food Contact Requirements

Nextek work closely with organisations in the EU and USA that specify and approve food contact requirements at national and international levels. Nextek conduct food contact evaluations for new packaging materials and products as well as developing petitions for submission to bodies such as USFDA and FSA (EU).

  • Plastics Compound Specification & Development

Nextek undertake custom compound investigation, specification and development for products with specific chemical and physical properties.

  • Process Design, Equipment Specification & Selection

Nextek assists businesses in the design of novel processes, specification and selection of processing and recycling equipment by ensuring that the most appropriate technical and commercial issues are investigated and prioritised prior to final purchasing decisions.

  • Auditing Plant and Processes for Quality & Efficiency

Nextek conducts plant audits to identify cost saving opportunities related to efficient operator practices, plant operation, energy usage, maintenance, quality of products, rationalisation of materials and waste management.

  • Additional specialisations
