As the issue of single use plastics grips the nation, many have begun to advocate for alternative and more environmentally friendly materials such as paper and corn-starch.

However, Niall Dunne, chief executive of Polymateria, a plastic waste reduction company, believes that we should be altering the properties of plastic to make it biodegradable instead.
