About

This project will underpin an UK-Malaysian “Research and Innovation” bridge to accelerate the deployment of knowledge and the exploitation of research that will:
a) improve the preservation of food during transport/ storage between the producer and the consumer (in urban settings),

b) reduce urban solid waste from plastics going to landfill,

c) improve health and well being of the population by reducing risk of communicable diseases transmitted by foodborne pathogens in meat or vegetables.

Funding

innovate uk logoThe project, SafeBioPack, has secured £1.27m and RM6.27m of funding over 34 months. Co-funded by the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK and MIGHT (Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology). Innovate UK works with people, companies and partner organisations to find and drive the science and technology innovations that will grow the UK economy. For further information visit www.innovateuk.gov.uk.
As well as UK and Malaysian government funding, part of the funding is contributed by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and by matching funding from the commercial partners. This affordable packaging product will reduce food loss across the supply chain, will be setting-up a platform for other subsequent broader uses, and will contribute to minimising waste-to-landfill problems.
